Dare to Dream
Dare to Dream
Welcome to our blog. A first blog entry should set the tone for what is to follow. We want this space to be a place of encouragement, fun, laughter, and dreams; after all, old doesn’t mean dead. I don’t know who said the following, but I think I want it to be my motto: “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming – WOW – What a ride!” (Author unknown)
Our first blog is about dreams, and the pursuit of them. C.S. Lewis said “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” Maybe you are a Baby Boomer or a senior who has put your dreams on hold to raise a family or succeed in a career or maybe you’ve only recently realized that you have a dream. My words for you are: “Get on with it”!
Write down your dream. Somehow, putting the words to paper make them real. Write down steps you need to take to reach your dream. Take baby steps toward achieving your dream. Connect with people who can help or at least encourage you. Keep at it. Nothing worthwhile is easy. Don’t give up!
Below are links to two videos that are uplifting and empowering. One is by Donnalou Stevens, an artist and musician from Texas, who now calls San Francisco home. She and a group of women friends were sharing an evening together, singing and just enjoying each other’s the company. They made a home video of one of their songs. Stevens decided they should create a more professional video of the song. In June of this year she posted the video on youtube and it had millions of hits. She then decided to start a Kickstarter Campaign to raise funds to do another video. Instead of the $10,000 she hoped to raise, she had raised $34,000+ by July 4th. Stevens wrote, “At 55 I feel like I just got my wings and it’s time to fly.” Best wishes to Stevens for pursuing her dreams and making the world a happier place in the process.
The second video is that of a group of elderly men in Taiwan who are tired of feeling and acting “old” and decide to do something about it. The result is touching and empowering. They can truly say “What a ride”!
I hope you will be inspired to go for your dream, enjoy life fully, and always enjoy the journey.
Don’t forget – watch the videos – you’ll be glad you did.
